HOUSTON (June 25, 2008) –The Houston Comets have re-signed forward Latasha Byears, it was announced today by Head Coach and General Manager Karleen Thompson.

Byears had signed a training camp contract with the team on March 11, 2008, but was waived from the roster on May 16, to take time to heal from a great toe fracture on her right foot suffered during a preseason game on May 13 against the Washington Mystics at Verizon Center.

First signed by the Comets on April 22, 2007, Byears has proven herself as an aggressive defender who has been a member of the Women’s National Basketball Association’s Sacramento Monarchs, Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics franchises. Byears holds career averages of 8.0 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game, having first joined the WNBA as a developmental player and assigned to the Monarchs on May 27, 1997.

After last night’s 82-81 triumph in overtime versus the San Antonio Silver Stars, the Houston Comets seek to sweep the three-game series on Thursday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Reliant Arena. The Indiana Fever will make their first and only 2008 regular season visit to face the Comets in Reliant Arena on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Individual game tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
