HOUSTON (May 17, 2008) – The Houston Comets today announces its final roster for the 2008 Women's National Basketball Association season.  The WNBA schedule begins today and includes the Comets’ season opener against the 2007 Eastern Conference Champion Detroit Shock in The Palace of Auburn Hills at 3:30 p.m. EDT.  Among the 13 women to play for Houston are eight guards, three forwards and two centers of which five are WNBA All-Stars, two Olympians and four All-WNBA First or Second Team honorees.  Houston hosts its 2008 home opener against the Minnesota Lynx at Reliant Arena on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. CDT.  Two of the Comets’ 2008 matchups will broadcast on ESPN2:  June 24, 8 p.m. against the San Antonio Silver Stars at AT&T Center, and the final of a two-game series versus the Shock in Reliant Arena on July 24 at 8:30 p.m.

Houston made a waiver request for its 2008 third round draft pick Crystal Kelly (31st overall) on May 15, and a waiver on May 16 for nine-year WNBA veteran Latasha Byears who suffered a great toe fracture on her right foot.
